Miles walked in total 496 from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela
The end of the pilgrimage We saw the man with the dog again. I've thought about it on all these many days of walking and have no explanation for him.
The walk to Santiago was typical: beautiful scenery, boring scenery, and what has become typical in these last 100 kilometers, lots and lots of pilgrims. Groups of students in matching shirts, groups of adults, so many pilgrims.
We caught a glimpse of the cathedral spires on the outskirts of town. They got closer and closer as we walked, peeking out from behind the skyline. Excitement built as we approached the cathedral square from behind. A bagpiper played as we walked down some stairs and into the cathedral square. Pilgrims were everywhere, hugging, cheering, and basking in the accomplishment of completion. We walked to the center of the square, and a small group of ladies already seated by their packs clapped as we walked by, "You did it!". They could probably see the look of awe on our faces.
Placed our packs on the ground and laid down, resting on them. Taking in the beautiful blue sky and cathedral facade. What a journey.
