Pilgrim conditions Sarria is a traditional starting point for pilgrims who want to get their certificate for completing the Camino Santiago, but who don't have enough time to walk from other starting points. Pilgrims are required to have two stamps in our passports per day for the last 100km of the walk. Sarria is about 114 miles from Santiago, so it makes sense.
The increase in folks walking is noticable. There were two school groups setting out this morning when we started our walk. The new pilgrims are so adorable with their clean, new shoes and nice looking backpacks. Their empty pilgrim's passports crying out for stamps. I keep telling myself, "Everyone walks their own pilgrimage" and try not to judge folks who ain't seen the mud and mountains and strangers in their underwear that I've seen.
I believe these plants are some kind of green - the traditional Galician soup features white beans, potatoes, and greens. It's delicious and very popular.
That's Portomarin. There was a footpath portion of the bridge on the left for pilgrims to walk across the river.
