We stayed at Casa Ko, a Bed and Breakfast on a farm while in Ensenada. We found it the perfect base for exploring the area. This is the view from our room.
Just one of the many chickens there and I was so excited to see them each day. It made me miss my girls a little less.
You won't believe what's hiding under those clouds.
Only the Osorno Volcano!
We visited the Parque Nacional several times - enjoying the trails to the water falls and the beaches (for relaxing not swimming).
This lake is at the very back of the park. The mountains in the far distance are the Argentinian Andes.
We felt like this lake would be the perfect setting for a boyscout camp - or the movie Dirty Dancing. It was so peaceful!
I can see Argentina from here!
Stray dogs are abundant in Chile. This fellow was walking along, then made a line to Jonathan. He promptly sprawled out next to him and let out a heavy doggie sigh as if to say "I've been looking for you all over the place!" He stayed around until a boat went by and then he chased the waves down the shore.
The hawk you see in the background is just one of many we saw in this area. I thought it was unusual he was at the beach.
Another view of Osorno form a different beach
Apparently, it is not unusual to see hawks at the beach because we kept seeing them.
We really enjoyed relaxing on the lake beaches.
Meanwhile, back on the farm, Quacker Jack met the goat, but I was afraid she would eat him, so I had to hang on to QJ.
The climate in this region is MUCH different than Santiago. Look at that hydrangea - it is practically a tree! I am totally jealous.
Also, lavender abounds. Just another plant our hot Alabama summers would kill in a minute.
J managed to catch a picture of this honey bee on a tree in the backyard.
We set out on another adventure to the fisherman's town, Cochamo, just a bit away from Ensenada.
The sign says Fin Pavemento.
Fin Pavimento indeed
We almost missed the side road that lead to the little town of Cochamó - but I am so glad J threw the car in reverse and went back to it. What a cute little place.
We saw these little work out stations all around Chile. I was pretty excited to try them out.
The tide was out and we enjoyed walking on the rocky shore.
This church reminded us of the ones we saw on Chiloé.
Returning from Cochamó, we stopped by the Parque Nacional again, this time to see the falls without so many other folks around.
Isn't it creepy how you can see the lava flow in the rocks?
This is our chariot of fire. Another love/hate relationship with our rental car.
We stopped at a viewing point on the road and noticed a cute little restaurant across the street.
| The best part about this restaurant? The llamas!!!! |
| She was SO SOFT. |
